Woodchop Takes Over Circular Quay as the Sydney Royal Easter Show Gears Up

The sound of axes striking timber echoed across Sydney Harbour this week as Australia’s elite woodchoppers put on a spectacular live show at Circular Quay. The event marked the start of ticket sales for the 2026 Sydney Royal Easter Show, giving commuters a thrilling taste of one of the Show’s most loved traditions: woodchopping.

Among the line-up was Olympic boxer Harry Garside, swapping gloves for an axe to try his hand at one of the country’s toughest and most time-honoured sports. Under the guidance of Australian Champion Brad De Losa, Garside went swing for swing with some of the best in the business, drawing cheers from a crowd that quickly gathered along the Northern Wharf.

Sydney Royal Easter Show General Manager Murray Wilton said the city showcase perfectly captured the spirit of the event.

“Woodchop is a Show institution – a sport forged in rural grit, community spirit and incredible skill,” he said. “It’s a true crowd favourite, and bringing it to Circular Quay lets Sydneysiders experience firsthand the energy and tradition that make the Show so special.”

The live woodchopping demonstration was a striking sight against a harbour backdrop, with timber chips flying and plenty of surprised commuters stopping to take photos. The celebration continued with giveaways and excitement about what’s new and returning to the 2026 Show.

The buzz from Circular Quay is just the beginning. This April, the Woodchop Stadium will once again come alive, showcasing Australia’s best competitors battling it out in one of the Show’s headline events.
