Hacks, Harness, Riding and Leading Rein

Where: Sydney Showground Stadium
When: 12 - 23 April

When judging Hack Classes, the judges consider the horse on conformation, presentation, movement and manners.

When judging Harness Classes, the judges consider the horse, the vehicle and on some occasions, the ability of the driver.

When judging Rider Classes, the judges consider the rider or on position presentation and effectiveness of aids.

There will be something to see every day of the Show, with these classes filling The Stadium. Highlights will include the Evening Harness Parade, Working Stock Horses showcasing the fast stops, turns and skills needed to work with livestock on farms, whilst the most prestigious classes on Show will be RM Williams Trophy for the most Versatile Australian Stock Horse Exhibit, the Col AV Pope Best Gelding Hack over 15hh and the FL Crane Best mare or Filly Hack over 15hh & n.e. 16hh.

Alpaca Competition

Where: Munro Pavilion
When: 18 - 23 April
Operated by the Australian Alpaca Association, the Sydney Royal Alpaca & Fleece Competition is internationally recognised and regarded as Australia's most prestigious Alpaca competition.

Operated by the Australian Alpaca Association, the Sydney Royal Alpaca & Fleece Competition is internationally recognised and regarded as Australia's most prestigious Alpaca competition.

Huacaya (soft fleece with a natural crimp) and Suri (long, luxurious fibre) breeds compete in their own sections for the title of Best Alpaca, with breeders receiving valuable feedback along with exposure to an ever-curious public audience.

Gaining popularity with attendees is the Alpaca Fleece competition, where judges look for the fineness, colour, and shear weight to determine the Supreme Champion.

Team Penning

Where: Schmidt Arena

If there's a cattle herd of 30 and you want to separate 3 steer in 90 seconds you best have three riders on horseback ready to pen them and show off their skill.

If there's a cattle herd of 30 and you want to separate 3 steer in 90 seconds you best have three riders on horseback ready to pen them and show off their skill. If you want to turn it into a competition, you would call it Team Penning and put it on at the Show.  And if you want to watch this incredibly fast-paced event, one that is taking off all over the country, make your way to Schmidt Arena and be ready to see the awesome skill of some of our finest riders.

Vaulting

Where: Schmidt Arena
When: 18 April 2pm - 4.20pm & 19 April 9am - 11.30am
A beautiful combination of gymnastics or dance moves and horsemanship, Vaulting truly is gymnastics on horseback. Individual competitors perform compulsory moves and freestyle events, judged on ability and artistic interpretation receiving marks out of ten.

Individual competitors perform compulsory moves and freestyle events, judged on ability and artistic interpretation receiving marks out of ten. Team competition involves 2 or 3 riders at a time incorporating lifts and group movements, whilst the pas de deux has two riders performing freestyle moves that highlight the perfect cooperation between horses and riders. Costumes, music and the artistic wonder of the events make Vaulting a must-see horse competition at the Show.
