Pig Competition

Where: Paddington Pavilion
When: 12 - 17 April
The Sydney Royal Pig Show is Australia’s best display of pure breed stud pigs, which compete in separate classes. The Judge looks for trueness to type and breed in each judging class.

The Sydney Royal Pig Show is Australia's best display of pure breed stud pigs, which compete in separate classes. The Judge looks for trueness to type and breed in each judging class.  Additionally, in Boars, they look for suitability for breeding stock, and in Sows they judge on ability to carry strong litters. Ultimately, all pigs compete for Best Pig in Show.

The 2019 feature breed is Berkshire, a short-legged pig with an average weight (at maturity) of 270kg and an upturned nose.

A recent addition to the Pig Show is the Schools Commercial Pig Competition, where students compete to raise a pen of three pigs with the best uniformity of weight, body condition, maturity, and market suitability. Students also present to the public on their process of raising the animals.
