Turtles are one of the oldest reptile groups in the world - even older than crocodiles and snakes - and one of the slowest moving.

Turtles are one of the oldest reptile groups in the world - even older than crocodiles and snakes - and one of the slowest moving. It's the shell slowing them down, but it also protects them, like a shield, from the jaws of predators.  A turtle can never come out of its shell, but they can be seen on display at the Show for one day only, 13 April.

Team Penning

If there's a cattle herd of 30 and you want to separate 3 steer in 90 seconds you best have three riders on horseback ready to pen them and show off their skill.

If there's a cattle herd of 30 and you want to separate 3 steer in 90 seconds you best have three riders on horseback ready to pen them and show off their skill. If you want to turn it into a competition, you would call it Team Penning and put it on at the Show.  And if you want to watch this incredibly fast-paced event, one that has taken off all over the country, make your way to Schmidt Arena and be ready to see the awesome skill of some of our finest riders.

Make your way to the Pet Pavilion to make some new feathered friends, with the Tame Parrot Display and the Aviary Bird Display featuring some of Australia's endangered bird species.

On display every day of the Show, this is an amazing opportunity to pat and talk to a parrot and learn a little about the steps you can take to save a species or two of native birds.

Putting the Best of Breed winners up against each other, the Sydney Royal Best in Show is one of Australia’s most prestigious canine honours.

Best in Show Competition judging will commence at 9am, the winner will be announced at 3pm.

Merino

Where: Sheep Pavilion
When: 9.00am-6.00pm 10-12 April
Merino and Poll Merino (no horns) are judged separately in this premier competition, with the Grand Champion Rams and Grand Champion Ewes brought together to determine the Supreme Exhibit on 11 April.

Merino and Poll Merino (no horns) are judged separately in this premier competition, with the Grand Champion Rams and Grand Champion Ewes brought together to determine the Supreme Exhibit on 11 April. Judges look at visual characteristics, fleece type and weight, even scanning each entry with an ultrasound to determine fat depth and muscle. Prior to the competition exhibitors can send in a sample of fleece for Mid Side Sampling, helping to decide which animal is producing the best quality fleeces and therefore should be entered.

The Sydney Royal Frog and Reptile Show took its place amongst the official Sydney Royal competitions in 2011 and fast became an absolute favourite for Show visitors.

The Sydney Royal Frog and Reptile Show took its place amongst the official Sydney Royal competitions in 2011 and fast became an absolute favourite for Show visitors. One of the largest of its kind in Australia, the competition features non-venomous snakes, lizards and frogs, and judges who definitely don’t mind slithering, scaly and sometimes jumpy competitors.
