The first showjumping events at the Show were held in 1878, a test for both horse and rider, it quickly became a popular spectator event. Little has changed in the modern competition. The horse and the rider take on a course of 10-13 jumps or fences including walls and oxers (two jumps) and compete in a race against the clock.

Penalties are given if a horse knocks a rail to the ground or refuses a jump, or if the time limit is exceeded.

Showjumping is on every day at the Show, in GIANTS Stadium. Professional riders compete in the Open Competitions whilst Junior, Amateur and Pony Club sections remain separate. The event not to be missed is the Grand Prix on the afternoon of 18 April 2022 in which the best performing horses at the Show are selected to compete against the clock over fences from 1.5 to 1.6 metres high.
