Student Workshops

Attending the Show with your students in 2022? Student workshops will be held on Friday 8 April 2022, across Honey and Chocolate and be sure to get your taste buds racing. You can book in for one, or both if you like!

THE SWEET BEE HOTEL (HONEY WORKSHOP)

Penny Downy, experienced beekeeper and honey enthusiast, will guide your students through the process of honey production. This experience has been reviewed to ensure it meets curriculum requirements as they develop proficiency in their practical interactions with and decisions regarding food and a deep understanding of sustainable and ethical practices that support exceptional agricultural experiences.

In this 30 minute workshop, learn how the bees make honey and how different flowers affect the properties of the honey. Apply your new knowledge to judge the quality of our honey samples.

ART OF CHOCOLATE 
(FOOD TECHNOLOGY WORKSHOP SERIES - CHOCOLATE)

Students will create new connections and appreciation of the familiar treat of Chocolate. This new understanding will be put into practice in a fun, engaging context as they explore

The history of cacao, what is chocolate?, the journey from Bean to Bar (Plantation/Factory), regional variations in Chocolate and the crucial awareness of Sustainability and Ethics. This experience has been reviewed to ensure it meets curriculum requirements as they develop proficiency in their practical interactions with and decisions regarding food and a deep understanding of sustainable and ethical practices that support exceptional agricultural experiences.

This experience will be guided by chocolate expert Ms Jodie Van Der Velden who is the founder and creative force of Josophan's is located in Leura of the beautiful Blue Mountains. Josophan’s creates extraordinary fine chocolates, using Fair Trade certified Callebaut Belgian couverture chocolate,  Single Origin and Single Plantation chocolates and ganache fillings made with fresh flavour infusions. All of her chocolates have no preservatives, no artificial flavours, simply fresh, naturally flavoured, luxurious chocolates.

Students will also learn firsthand the key skill of how to eat chocolate to get the maximum taste pleasure by engaging their five senses.
