Student Workshops

Attending the Show with your students in 2021? The Student workshops - held on Thursday, 1 April 2021, across Honey and Cheese will get your taste buds racing. You can book in for one, or both if you like!

Honey workshop

Penny Downy, experienced beekeeper and honey enthusiast, will guide your students through the process of  honey production. In this 30 minute workshop, learn how the bees make honey and how different flowers affect the properties of the honey. Apply your new knowledge to judge the quality of our honey samples. Come and get hands on with honey!

  • Flower to Hive: the journey of the bee and how honey is created
  • Taste: discover the flavours of honey
  • Repeat: sustainable and ethical practices in apiculture

Recommended for Stage 4 and 5 students studying Food Technology or Agriculture.

Cheese workshop

This 30 minute workshop explores what makes a great cheese. Students learn about hard and soft cheeses, how they are made and how differences in texture and aroma affect the final product. Finally, students use their new cheese skills to taste and judge various cheese samples to Show standards.

  • Dairy: the origins of cheese and the journey from dairy cow to table
  • Sample: taste different varieties of cheese
  • Judge: use your knowledge and critique our different cheeses
