Grand Parades & Horse Events

The Grand Parades are one of the Show’s traditional highlights and one of the world’s largest parades of agricultural excellence. Since 1907 Australia’s best farmers, graziers, horsemen and women have showcased the best in bloodlines and breeding in this annual spectacle at the Show.

The Grand Parades are an event with a rich history, lively atmosphere and impressive choreography. Parades are held during the Show with the first commencing at 2.55pm, after the Official Opening at 2.15pm on Wednesday 26 March.

The remaining Grand Parades will take place on:

  • Saturday 29 March at 5pm
  • Monday 31 March at 5.15pm

Sydney Royal Horse Classic 2008
Following a 180-year Australian tradition of showing horses at the Show, horsemen and women from around the country will saddle up to compete in the Show’s newest Competition, the inaugural Sydney Royal Horse Classic.

Running over the last six days of the Show, a range of Competition Classes including Champion Hack, Pony Hack, Galloway, Saddle & Harness
Classes
and Led & Ridden Breeds will be showcased with a number of Australia’s finest horses competing.

Horses on Show
Watch amazing riders and their horses perform with beauty and precision in various horse team events including Showjumping, Polo, Polocrosse,
Tentpegging and Campdraft. These exciting events will take place on the first eight days of the Show.

Another highlight of this year's program is the World Cup Showjumping, from 7pm on Thursday 27 March. Catch the best of the best practicing for selection in the 2008 Olympic Games.

This year, international Polo events will be staged in the NAB Arena.

About the Competitors
Ed Archibald: Ed made his debut for the Australian Team in the NAB Arena
against Argentina last week. This is a good talent who is on the way up.
Rob Ballard: A very hard working 4 Goal professional.  Rob will be key to
NSW progressing.
James Biem: One of England’s best young players. James will be the one to
watch in the SA team.
Joe Curran: A solid 3 Goaler who is very well mounted. 
Glen Gilmore
: One of Australia’s best Polo Players in the last decade. Glen captained Australia on numerous occasions. 
Sam Gunn
: A confident country boy who has a good all-round game.  Sam reads
the play well, especially in the arena format.
Kelvin Johnson
: Always gives 110% - watch the sublime stick work.
Callum MacLachlan
: A very well-mounted Number 1 who will be dangerous in
front of goal. Callum is a past Australian representative.
Jock MacLachlan
: Playing the Number 2 position, Jock will be key to the success
of the SA team.
Stirling
McGregor: An aggressive hard -riding player who will stamp his authority
on every game he is in. Stirling recently represented Australia in a Test in India.
Gillon McLachlan
: This dominant Back has one of the best back hands in Polo.
Gillon represented Australia recently in India.
Hamish McLachlan
: An explosive Number 1 who has good stick skills. Well
mounted with one previous RAS State of Origin Title under his belt.

Looking for a bit of horseplay during your visit to the Easter Show? Then look no further than the R.M.Williams Stables (Showmap ref. U12), for an up close and personal meeting with two of our most important staff members, the brother and sister whaler horses Waltz and Matilda.  

Six year-old Waltz and seven year-old Matilda are veterans of the Royal Easter Show and enjoy nothing more than greeting Showgoers and their families. Waltz and Matilda will be joined by Stockhorse Jack and  Thoroughbred Ted, so be sure to visit the awesome foursome for plenty of opportunties to pat the gentle giants and learn a bit more about horsecare from our R.M.Williams staff.
